SKINTIGHT SAMBA FOR SCHOOLS
"Samba is about having fun. Samba is about inclusion - there's a place for everyone, no matter how fit you are, how old you are, or how experienced you are ... everyone can join in and feel the freedom of the rhythm" (Scottish Arts Council)
Samba is a real music that your pupils will be able to play and really want to play; it accommodates a wide range of skill levels; it encourages good ensemble and many other transferable musical skills; it offers a quickly understandable way of composing music in which a little material can be cheerfully stretched a long way and it makes natural links with other curriculum areas.
Samba can also be useful within the school community - a school or community Samba Band is something that staff, parents and pupils can all participate in and identify with.
WORKSHOPS, COURSES & SUPPORT
SKINTIGHT can provide one-off workshops for your pupils, or to raise interest among parents and staff. We can also provide longer courses so that we can get your band off the ground and train you to lead and teach it, and we can support you with advice and materials - we'll tell you what instruments not to buy, for instance, and give you an instant repertoire of do-able pieces.
At SKINTIGHT workshops we teach pieces the natural way - you just watch, listen and imitate. SKINTIGHT workshops are led by Howard Harrison, the author of many educational music books including SIMPLE SAMBA , ex-head of music at two FE colleges and a lecturer in World Music and Composition at the University of Plymouth.
"Brazil comes to Halcon! Skintight Samba were everything we wanted. They worked really well with all age-ranges in school, providing a rich samba experience which was loved by children, staff and parents alike. Skintight were great fun, engaged all our children.....we can't wait to have them back!" Richard Adams, headteacher, Halcon Primary School, Taunton
